Subject: 150 years and still strong!
Subject: 150 years and still strong!
One of the early geological societies, the Geological Society of Glasgow was founded in 1858 and had illustrious presidents such as William Thomson, who became Lord Kelvin. The book celebrating the first 50 years of the society is a great read and includes biographies of many of the west of Scotland geologists who are still revered the World over for their contribution to the Science of Geology. It is a fantastic resource documenting many of the early discoveries of fossil, mineral and structural localities in Scotland. What a gem! It is an essential read for those interested in the history of geology. I have an original copy of this publication and frequently can be found extracting snippets of information that would otherwise have been lost to science.
